Are You ready to adopt?

Before You Bring A Mini Pig Home

Adopting a mini pig is a big responsibility. To make the process smoother and ensure a happy home, preparation and choosing the right pig are key.

Pigs are often rehomed for many reasons—some come from loving homes, while others need extra care. Experienced pig owners are usually better suited for pigs with special needs, while beginners may do better with well-socialized pigs.

Before adopting, ask yourself:

  • Am I ready for a pig in my home?
  • Why do I want a pig, and is my home suitable?
  • Can I handle unexpected challenges?
  • Who will be the primary caregiver, and have I done enough research?
  • Am I zoned for pigs, and are my expectations realistic about age, breed, or size?
  • Can I afford the costs—adoption fees, vet care, food, etc.?
  • Is everyone in the household on board with this decision?
  • Can I provide a stable home for the next 20 years?
  • How much time and energy can I dedicate to a pig?
  • Will other pets get along with a pig, and do I have space for it, indoors or outdoors?
  • Do I have a vet picked out, and can I afford necessary surgeries like spaying/neutering?
  • Is my yard secure, free from toxic plants, and big enough for a pig?
  • Do I want a socialized pig, or am I prepared to take on a more challenging rescue?
  • How will introducing a new pig affect my home, especially if I already have pets?
  • Can I be patient if bonding takes time?
  • If the adoption doesn’t work out, what is my plan for the pig?

A mini pig can be a loud, loving, and intelligent companion, but they require lifelong commitment.

Thank you!
